Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Haikou, Capital of Hainan Island

Haikou is a laid back city in the north of Hainan Island. It is the biggest urban area in Hainan and is a great place to begin your tour. We will pick you up from Haikou airport and take you to your accommodation. You will have time to explore the bustling streets and local culture. We provide an evening meal where we can get to know each other and learn about the cycle trip ahead.

Days 2 to 5: Central Hainan

Rural Chinese countryside doesn’t get better than this. We will bike along mountain roads through ethnic minority villages, lush green paddy fields, waterfalls, and tropical rainforest. You will have the opportunity to hike the highest peak of Hainan and raft down mountain rivers. There are some great downhill cycling sections and our support vehicle is on hand to help with the uphills. Accommodation includes an attractive hot-spring hotel, a great way to relax after a days cycling.

Days 5 to 9: South Coast Hainan

Palm tree lined tropical beaches await us in the South. We will cycle between tropical beach towns. The most famous area in the south is Sanya. Sanya is one of the fastest growing tropical beach resorts in South-East Asia. We will take you on a snorkeling trip to explore the clear waters and abundant sea life. If you are interested and the conditions are right we can also organize a surfing trip with lessons. We will bike along the coast and take a boat around the floating villages of Lingshui.

Days 10 to 11: East Hainan

Next we loop back along the east coast. Highlights include the coconut and banana plantations near Wenchang. The winding pathways through the plantations are perfect for cycling. You will cycle through fascinating villages where the local people still weave the palm leaves to create simple structures. These people live in a world apart from the one most of us know.

Day 12: Departure from Haikou

We arrive back in Haikou after our tour of Hainan Island and your adventure is complete.

We have flexible tour dates. We focus on personalizing our tours to our customers. Let us know a starting date that is convenient for you.

You have the option of keeping this tour private for you and your group, or you could open the tour up to the public and allow others to join.

The more people who join the tour the less expensive it will be to each rider.

Price

12 day cycling tour: 2000 USD.

Bikes Provided

We will provide mountain bikes and helmets for the tour. They are good quality entry level bikes and are kept in good condition. We bring most bicycle spares to fix the bike if necessary.

You can bring your own bike if you want, but please bring some spares because we may not be able to provide spares for your particular bicycle.

Clothing

You will need to bring you own cycling clothing. The days can be sunny in Hainan, therefore you should take precautions to avoid sun-burn. Such as long-sleeves and sun block.

Accommodation

We provide accommodation in good quality hotels. These are typically 3 to 4 star standard. In small rural areas the quality of hotel maybe lower than that available in bigger cities.

Cycling Tour Level and Terrain

Our bike tours are suitable for all ranges of experience - beginner, intermediate, and advanced. We will assess your cycling experience and fitness then make adjustments to fit your level. We have full vehicle support to help you if you want a rest at any point. The vehicle may be used to transport you between certain points. The total cycling distance is around 400-600km, depending on experience. The terrain is varied: flat, rolling hills, and mountainous. Road conditions vary from good sealed tarmac to dirt roads.

Meals

Meals will generally be Chinese food. Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements. Personal snacks or alcohol is not included in the price.
